Sunny Singh Gill has been appointed referee for Rovers’ Sky Bet League Two play-off semi-final first leg at Crewe Alexandra on May 6.
In March, Gill became the first British South Asian to referee a Premier League game when he took charge of Crystal Palace v Luton Town. He has followed in the footsteps of father Jarnail Singh, who refereed across the EFL between 2004 and 2010, while his brother Bhupinder was the first Sikh to serve as a Premier League assistant referee in January 2023.
The Berkshire official has taken charge of 48 matches this term, with the majority coming in League One. He has issued 184 yellow cards and six red across those games.
This will be his first outing of the season refereeing a Rovers game but he previously handled them on one other occasion - the 1-0 win over Colchester United in April 2023.
Gill will be assisted by Johnathon Bickerdike and Scott Williams on Monday while Simon Mather has been assigned fourth official duties.
